04 ANIMATED SHORTS

Various animated projects I created. One of my favourite aspects of creating animated work is the process of conveying a story.

Project: Illustration, Animation, Motion Design, Storyboarding

LUNCH

For this animated short, I drew inspiration from real-life conversations, specifically the frequent dilemma of deciding what to have for lunch, a choice that always seems overwhelming with so many options and little clarity on what I actually want. Using this scenario as the foundation, I designed characters based on myself and my boyfriend to bring a personal touch to the story. I also used both of our voices for the voice acting. Sometimes the burden of making a decision clouds my thoughts and I struggle to make a concrete decision. My goal was to turn this everyday moment into a short, playful video that captures the humour in the little indecisions we all experience.

DIVA GURL MAKEOVER

Growing up in the mid-2000s digital age, I played online games directed for young girls with common themes of dress up, makeovers, hair styling, etc. I used this aspect of my childhood to discuss my early perceptions of beauty, while growing up in a white-dominated area. When I moved to Edmonton at the age of 9, I immediately noticed a significant difference in the diversity around me. Diva Gurl Makeover is a simulation of an online video game, much like the ones I played as a child. The game is played through the perspective of my younger self, attempting to find herself within it. The game reflects my personal struggle with acceptance, often presenting versions of myself that were not entirely accurate. It delves into themes of identity, exploring aspects like skin color, eye color, and hair texture.

LET LOOSE

I was inspired by discussing a topic that many people can relate to—being so caught up in the busyness of life that they forget about their own basic needs. My creative process started with brainstorming characters and shaping the core story.
